Furlanthropy is a registered 501c3 charity inspired by the true story of a dog named Hazelnut; who rescued a grumpy man.

“I don’t want a dog.” Those were the words of Furlanthropy Founder and President; Adam Spencer.

“ I had over the years become afraid of dogs. My cat Kobe passed away and my heart was
empty. My wife Erica convinced me to go with her to the local Humane Society “just to look.”

Despite repeatedly reminding her that “I don’t want a dog,” I agreed.

Shortly, thereafter, I found myself looking into the precious eyes of Hazelnut. “I love you, and I’mgoing to take care of you,” I said, and then kissed the top of her furry head. In that moment Hazelnut literally changed my heart – in ways that only these furry blessings can.

Hazelnut’s original owners had to forfeit her to the veterinarian because they couldn’t afford her life-saving care. Two-thirds of pets are euthanized because of a lack of finances.

Thankfully, Hazelnut was one of the lucky ones who received life-saving care, before being donated to the humane society to be adopted.

As a (CFRE) Certified Fund-Raising Executive for many years, Adam knew there needed to be a solution to help remove the financial barriers to access to veterinary care; so Adam started Furlanthropy; the first and only charity-owned-and-operated crowdfunding platform.

“Not only did Hazelnut rescue my heart – she is inspiring a movement to bring financial hope to pets everywhere." Adam says, “I now LOVE dogs (and kitties too). Adam and his wife Erica and their 5 teenagers have rescued a second dog named Chewy.

Furlanthropy was founded in 2021. Over the last 4 years we have been in a quiet phase of
operations; tweaking our program to better serve pets and animal related causes. In November 2025 we re-launched our website with significant upgrades to our crowdfunding program to position us to help thousands of more pets – with your help.
